Understanding CME Compliance
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) sets national standards to ensure CME activities are independent, balanced, and scientifically rigorous. Compliance with ACCME guidelines requires CME providers to implement processes that identify and mitigate potential conflicts of interest, prohibit commercial bias, and promote evidence-based education. These standards protect learners by ensuring CME activities are free from promotional content and maintain a clear separation from industry influence. Strict adherence to ACCME guidelines is essential for maintaining accreditation status and upholding the credibility of educational programs.

Disclosures: What They Are and Why They Matter
Disclosures are statements that identify any financial relationships between individuals involved in planning or presenting continuing medical education (CME) activities and commercial interests, such as pharmaceutical or medical device companies. These disclosures help reveal potential conflicts of interest that could bias educational content. Collecting and openly sharing disclosures is critical to maintaining transparency, ensuring that educational content is objective, evidence-based, and free from commercial influence. This process protects the integrity of the CME program and builds trust with learners by demonstrating a commitment to unbiased education.

Product & Company Logos
The use of product logos, brand names, or company logos is strictly prohibited in educational content. Including branding can be perceived as promotional which conflicts with requirements to maintain independence from commercial interests. This applies to slides, handouts, videos and any other materials used during CME activities.

Presentation Tips for Effective CME
Effective CME presentations engage learners through clear objectives, concise content, and evidence-based information. Use simple, readable slides with minimal text, relevant visuals, and consistent formatting. Avoid overcrowding slides or reading directly from them. Instead, focus on storytelling, clinical cases, and practical takeaways to enhance learner retention. Practice good pacing, encourage questions, and tailor content to meet the educational needs of your audience.

Event Planning & Logistics
Successful CME activities rely on thoughtful planning and attention to detail. Course coordinators and directors play a vital role in ensuring all elements are well organized and executed. Good logistics support a seamless experience for both faculty and attendees, allowing the focus to remain on high-quality education.
